Francis Medearis

MSW, LCSWA

My experience as a therapist is grounded in the belief that it is a deeply personal process where you must feel safe and supported and also be truly seen and heard. I provide individual and family therapy to those ages 12 and older. My specialties are the treatment of anxiety and depression, grief, and trauma, particularly when related to life transitions. I practice from a client-centered lens while integrating evidence-based approaches into the interventions and work. I want you to leave your session with therapeutic skills that are meaningful and useful in everyday life as you cope with whatever you may be facing. You will find I am very relational in my approach using warmth and authenticity in the therapy process. Together, we will tailor each session to meet your needs and support you in working through the challenges you bring to therapy.

I am a proud “Charlottean” and have a strong love for my hometown and community. I am a graduate of the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) where I received my Bachelor’s degree in psychology. I received my Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where I deepened my commitment to understanding the whole person in their environment. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in North Carolina and provide both in-person and telehealth sessions for NC residents.

I am a provider for Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Meritain, and Medcost insurances. While I am not an in-network provider for United Healthcare, Carawell Counseling can provide a superbill for submission toward out-of-network benefits.

As a Charlotte native, I feel a strong connection to this community and take pride in serving it. My educational journey began with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in Sociology and Human Development Family Studies from the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!). I then earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where I honed my skills and deepened my commitment to this work.

When I’m not in the therapy room, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, competing in music trivia, and exploring my newfound love of tennis. These passions remind me of the importance of balance and self-care, lessons I strive to pass on to my clients.

Whether you’re a teen navigating life’s complexity or an adult seeking clarity and connection, I am committed to meeting you where you are. Together, we’ll create a path that honors your story, celebrates your resilience, and moves you closer to the life you envision. If this approach resonates with you, I would be honored to walk this journey with you.
